The National Library of Romania The National Library of Romaniais the body responsible for the deposit of the bibliographic and documentary heritage of Romania and the largest library in the country.
The library can be found in the school library of San Sava. This library opened its doors in 1859, when 1,000 French volumes were archived. After the union of 1859, the library reached the status of national. In 1864 the library was named Central State Library.
In 1901 all the collections were taken to the Library of the Romanian Academy.
In 1986, it was planned to move to a new, larger location, which was begun to be built between Piata Unirii and Traian Nerva. After 1989, although some parts of the building were finished , due to the lack of financing the construction was paralyzed. In 2009 the project was reassigned to the Ministry of Culture, which completed construction in 2011 and set the official opening date in 2012.

There is a bistro with lovely views on the top floor, a multimedia space in the basement and a gallery dedicated to modern art on the first floor.
